Every year in Monastiraki and Volakas /Drama Men(Arapides) , wear goat skins, and and bells on their waist. The noise they cause, drives evil spirits away and invites nature to wake up and prepare for spring.In Pagoneri a village only 7 km from the Bulgarian borders the custom of (ch)arapides takes place as in all villages in Drama.
